I’ve interviewed British makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury numerous times over the past 15 years. I elbowed my way to get to her backstage at fashion shows, I attended her sleepover when she launched skincare, and last week, I got to Zoom with the Queen of Glow to hear about her latest launch: a new line of Old Hollywood-inspired lipsticks. As a beauty director, I try different brands, but if I dumped my makeup bag out or opened my medicine cabinet, you’d see more Charlotte Tilbury products than any other brand. I wear Magic Cream every day because of the imperfection-blurring glow it gives. I never do my makeup without Flawless Filter, and her Bella Sofia eyeshadow quad made me realize I, in fact, have hazel—not brown—eyes (I swear; I changed it on my driver’s license). So when I got the chance to chat again with the iconic Charlotte Tilbury, I couldn’t help but fangirl and confess my love for her and her products.

Charlotte grew up around artists. Her father was a painter; her mother a fashion producer. She recalls studying posters of Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn in her bedroom and being enthralled by the lighting and their beauty. When she was 13, she experienced the transformative power of makeup after applying mascara to her barely there strawberry-blonde lashes and feeling instantly more confident. All of these years later, that sentiment still serves as Charlotte's motivation to innovate in the beauty space. "I want to bottle up that lighting, and I work with skincare labs to make sure all of my products stretch and blur so whether you're 18 or 80-year-olds, you'll look amazing," she says.

The 10 new lipsticks (5 red hues; 5 pink ones) are a matte formula that doesn't dry out lips (this is true; I've been wearing it). They're buildable (dab it on for a sheer veil, or keep swiping for a bolder, more opaque finish), transfer-proof (they are not bleeding onto my toddlers after kisses), last for up to 10 hours, and contain 3D-effect red and pink pigments to enhance your own lip shape. They have that Charlotte magic, so even if your lips are a tad flaky or thinning or maybe they have some lines, a few swipes and you have a plump, pretty pout.

Of course Charlotte chose a few major models—Kate Moss, Jourdan Dunn, and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez—to show off the lipstick in the new campaign. The Matte Revolution red shades include: Hollywood Vixen: a nuanced, bright red; Cinematic Red: a bright, cherry red; Fame Flame: a red-hot chili red; Pizzazz: a soft, muted, modern red; and Mark of a Kiss: a show-stopping blue-red. The K.I.S.S.I.N.G pink shades include: Icon Baby (Charlotte’s prediction to be the biggest hit and my personal new fave; it’s also the shade Jessica Chastain wore at the Emmy’s!): a dreamy, ’90s-inspired warm rose pink; Candy Chic: a warm, nude-rose; Red Carpet Pink: a soft, mauve rose; Rose to Fame: a sumptuous, satin, pastel pink; and 90s Pink: candy pink. Each lipstick is $35 and launches today on charlottetilbury.com.

Charlotte is also launching five Lip Cheat Hollywood Beauty Icon shades (her beloved lip liners) to correspond with the lipsticks in shades Icon Baby, 90s Pink, The Queen, Mark of a Kiss, and Red Carpet Red, all $25 on charlottetilbury.com.

The verdict: I'm telling even my non-lipstick-wearing friends that they need these in their lip wardrobe. They're comfy, long-lasting, and make me feel like a movie star, even when I'm in mom mode. All you have to decide is if you're team red or team pink.
