The Denim Shorts I’m Loving for 2024

Denim shorts are a staple in my summer wardrobe, and I’ve been getting a lot of questions about them lately. Like everything else style-related, shorts trends evolve with each new season, so let’s discuss! I’m also sharing the shorts I’ve added to my summer wardrobe, and then I rounded up some more good options for you to shop.

Summer 2024 Denim Shorts Trends

This year, I’m noticing longer shorts and more relaxed silhouettes. I’m not seeing as may cuffed styles as in seasons past, but there are lots of “cut-off jean shorts” and raw hems out there, which are nice for casual everyday looks. I’m also seeing more of the clean, finished hems than I have in the past few years.

Lengths vary from short (3 – 4″ inseam) to long (7 – 9″ inseam). The most current look to me, and I daresay, the easiest to wear for most of us, are the mid-thigh (4 – 6″ inseam) shorts.

Utility details are popular, specifically the porkchop pockets, and I’m also noticing some pleated denim shorts popping up at the mainstream retailers like LOFT and Madewell.

And denim washes are all over the map, from light to dark, but most are light and medium. Also, white and ecru are trending big time right now. I haven’t seen as much grey and black, or colored options, but that’s not to say they aren’t out there. They just aren’t as popular right now.

More relaxed silhouettes and A-line styles seem to be where trends are headed, but that doesn’t mean you have to go that route. This is all just information to do with as you will!

Personally, I’m not a big fan of relaxed styles when it comes to shorts, but I’m also not feeling the closer-fitting styles that I enjoyed in years past, so I’m trying to walk the middle of the road, so to speak.

I’ve added a few new pairs of denim shorts to my summer closet this season, so I’ll share those with you below, and then I rounded up some more shopping suggestions for anyone wanting more options!

The Denim Shorts I Added to My Summer Wardrobe

I already have cut-off jean shorts that I love (the AG Becke, pictured above), so I went looking for a pair with a finished hem. I was really happy to see the AGOLDE Parker offered in finished hems this year. I ended up keeping both a blue and a white pair.

The KUT from the Kloth Jane is similar, for an under-$100 option. Speaking of the Jane, I have the ones with the porkchop pockets in a blue denim version from last year, and I like them so much, I grabbed the white pair as soon as I saw them at Nordstrom. They also have an ecru pair that I have my eye on.

For a cuffed hem, Gap Factory has this pair that I really like, and they’re a great price.

With these and the ones I saved from last year, I’m pretty much set on denim shorts for the season, but I’m always open to another pair if I see something else that strikes my fancy!

More Denim Shorts to Shop

I’ve rounded up all of those, plus a bunch more denim shorts for you to shop below. I organized them by price point, so I hope that’s helpful.
