Love Island It Girls Serena & JaNa Don’t Need Your Style Advice

Season six was the biggest season of Love Island USA to date, and the emergence of it girls Serena Page and JaNa Craig is proof. Serena and JaNa, along with their PPG bestie Leah Kateb, have amassed a huge social media following since leaving the villa. And although they’re living their best lives, having millions of followers definitely takes some getting used to. For one thing, their followers don’t hold back on commenting about their makeup, hair, and outfits—but that doesn’t stop the girls from being themselves.

For Serena, negative comments are only motivation to keep doing things her way. After she noticed commenters dissing her bottom lashes, she decided to put even more mascara on them, “If I wanted to know their opinion, I would ask,” she says. On the other hand, JaNa has learned to take some things into consideration, like dabbling with blush for the first time. But after all of the scrutiny they’ve been under, Serena and JaNa know how to be unapologetically themselves better than anyone.

Beyond being reality TV icons, Serena and JaNa are fashion icons too. So, it’s no surprise they’re keeping tabs on all of the new trends popping up, including the controversial pantless look. Recently, the duo announced they’re teaming up with Truly for a bottomless brunch in celebration of the new Truly Hard Seltzer Brunch Pack and the iconic pantless trend. Brunch-goers are tasked with putting together a pantless outfit—something that Serena and JaNa know a little too much about, thanks to all the time they spent in bikinis on TV.

But when they weren’t in bikinis, Serena and JaNa were serving some of the best looks the villa has ever seen. On the show, the girls had picking out their outfits down to a science. JaNa says that Serena is the most stylish of all the girls, and she would ask for her advice while putting together outfits from Leah’s wardrobe. And because they plan to uphold their duties as fashion icons post-villa, they’re always taking note of Kordell and Kenny’s outfits too. While Kordell is just as big of a fashion icon as Serena is, JaNa says Kenny’s vibe leans more substitute teacher—and they both wouldn’t have it any other way.

You’re co-hosting the bottomless brunch with Truly, and even though you were always wearing bikinis in the villa—what do you really think about the pantless trend?

JaNa: We’ve been waiting for this question.

Serena: I love this question, because I’m here for it. Now, it caught me off guard at first. But now I’m like, I can get with that. I’m honestly young and turnt, so now is the time to be bottomless, you know, now’s the time. I want it while I got it. And nothing’s worse than literally wearing lingerie or a bikini on television. So it is what it is. I think there’s a lot of cute ways you can style it, and a lot of different ways you can go about it, like some hot shorts or daisy dukes. So many people have tried out different styles, so I’m excited to see how everybody pieces together the pantless look.

Do you have any outfit regrets from the villa?

JaNa: So the first time I wore this really cute red latex two piece, I killed it, I looked great. But Kenny didn’t get to see it. So I wore it again, like later on in the show. I don’t know if I gained weight or something, but the top didn’t fit. So throughout the whole day—I’d be having conversations, and Cane would go, “nip slip.” I had a nip slip every 30 seconds. It was to the point where all the other boys were like, “JaNa, nip slip.” It was so bad. But I wore the outfit perfectly like two weeks before. I must’ve gained too much weight. It was weird. I didn’t even notice I gained weight until I put on that outfit again.

Serena: I don’t think I have any. I like all my outfits.

JaNa: Serena was the most stylish one of us all. Like, whenever we put something on, we’d ask her for advice, and she’d be like, “girl, no,” and tell us straight up. And she’d put stuff together for us.

Serena: Yeah, Leah had the best wardrobe and the best pieces to pick from. But, I knew how to style them.

JaNa: You go to Leah’s closet to pick some options, and then you go to Serena to put it together. That’s how it was.

Is it hard to see people online constantly commenting about your hair and makeup? Do you take what they say into consideration or do you try to ignore it altogether?

Serena: I ignore it. I’ve seen people talk about how they hate my bottom eyelashes, like when I do the mascara—so I put more on.

JaNa: I’m my own person like Serena. A bunch of people were like, “Please wear blush.” I’m not a blush girly. But I thought, let’s just try something new. So I tried it. I’m wearing it right now. I kinda like it. And people are like, “Are you always going to do a middle part buss down, straight hair?” I was reading comments the other day, and it’s so annoying, because I really was gonna crimp my hair. I have colored hair coming soon. Like, just wait. A shorty is busy. I’ll take what they say into consideration, I’ll think about it, but I’m still me at the end of the day. I love constructive criticism and suggestions, but it’s about what I want. It’s my body, my hair, my face. I like how Serena said, “Oh you don’t like it? More.” I wish I had that confidence.

Serena: Hear no evil speak no evil. If I wanted to know their opinion, I would ask.

What’s your biggest fashion ick?

Serena: I don’t like men in skinny jeans. I despise men in skinny jeans. And joggers. The joggers that like get tight at the bottom. Those two, I can’t do it.

Do you help your men pick out outfits or buy clothes?

Serena: I know y’all know Kordell is a fashionista. He does not really listen to me suggesting stuff. I never have to worry about it though, he always has something nice on. I’m like, “Cute. Looks good,” and we go about our day. I might be like, “Maybe take that scarf off,” and he’ll be like “No, I’m gonna do it anyways.” And I’m like, “Ok.”

JaNa: When it comes to Kenny, I tell him that he looks like a very handsome substitute teacher—which people think is funny, but I like substitute teachers. Kenny’s style is very unique. He either dresses business casual or like a substitute teacher. I’ll always suggest things when we go shopping and he’ll be like, “No, no, no.” He does not do streetwear. He has a very particular taste, and I respect it, because it’s what makes him happy. But yeah, when it comes to like, a one through ten in fashion—he’s a little more on the lower end.

Who is your biggest fashion inspiration?

Serena: I really like Zendaya’s looks. They’re so killer, it’s crazy. I really like her style. Recently, I’ve been liking Tyla’s style as well. And who else?

JaNa: Beyonce.
