The girls that get it, get it, and the ones that don’t, don’t. That’s how we’d describe Addison Rae’s unexpected VMAs ensemble, which included only lingerie and a tutu, and was one of the most fun looks of the night.

ICYMI (but you probably didn’t), the MTV Video Music Awards took place last night, and the pop girls made a statement. Sabrina Carpenter won her first award, Taylor Swift wore plaid, and Megan Thee Stallion donned a blunt bob. Rae, who just released her newest single “Diet Pepsi,” was styled by Dara, and looked like a heavenly cake topper in all-white with glam inspired by Hollywood icons.

For her first VMAs, Rae channeled Maddona and Marilyn Monroe, with the help of Dame Pat McGrath—it doesn't get more iconic than that. "Addison’s look for the VMAs was inspired by a modern Marilyn—pairing the allure of lingerie with a soft, innocent edge," said McGrath. "For her makeup, I focused on keeping everything fresh, pure, and beautiful, with an all-over radiant glow."

Rae appeared as though she wasn’t wearing any foundation, that’s how natural-looking her glowy complexion was. McGrath used her products for the base, using the Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation, Concealer, Setting Powder, and Bronzer. After completing Rae’s base, she added a pink flush to the cheeks using the Divine Cream Blush in Electric Bloom and Cherish, and finished the look with the Dramatique Mega Lip Pencil in Belle Amour, a soft neutral berry pink. “The result was timeless, radiant, and absolutely glowing from every angle,” said McGrath.

Hairstylist Lucas Wilson styled her hair in glossy Hollywood waves and a sweet barrette. “The inspiration behind Addison’s look is showgirl mixed with Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’ because it’s her first time at the VMAs, so we wanted to lean into the girliness of that,” he says.

To prep her hair for styling, Wilson applied Amika’s Plus Size Perfect Body Hair Mousse to give the hair some oomph before drying. Then, he went in with the Blockade Heat Defense Hair Serum before wrapping the hair with a 1-inch curling iron and adding shine with the Supernova Moisture and Shine Hair Cream and the Glass Action Hydrating Hair Oil.
