One thing we can leave in 2002 is the Who Wore It Better tabloid column, but one thing we cannot is this Versace dress that Britney Spears wore in Milan in 2002. Blake Lively wore the exact same dress, now vintage, to the premiere of her new movie, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel, It Ends With Us.

Lively said in an interview to PEOPLE that it’s the exact same dress Britney Spears wore, not just a replica or another dress from the same production. The dress is a multi-colored sequin dress with with a one shoulder halter and embellished flowers all the way down the dress.

Lively has been wearing all florals this entire press cycle as a way to nod to her character Lily Bloom and the fact that she works in a flower shop. This dress is a gorgeous addition to her lineup.

“Britney, us millennials all have a story of a moment, or of years that you made us want to shine and inspire awe, with strength, and joy and immensely hard work,” she added. “Thank you for your example and your contribution to women telling their stories.”

“Method dressing” is a pretty common thing now, where celebrities wear outfits in line with their characters or their movies while they’re promoting. We saw it a ton on Zendaya with Challengers and Dune. We saw it with Margot Robbie and the other Barbie girls when Barbie came out. But Lively has been on this beat since 2018.

“I’m so excited method dressing is such a thing now because years ago when I did A Simple Favor, people were like, ‘Why are you dressing like your character? Why are you in suits?’” Lively said. “And I was like, because we have no marketing money to promote this movie. It’s a small movie and the only thing people really pay attention to at these junket interviews is the photos of fashion so if I just wear men’s suits, people are going to go, ‘Why is she just wearing suits?’ And then they’re going to go, ‘Oh, because she’s in a movie and she’s wearing men’s suits.’ It’s a marketing hack to try to get people to pay attention to our movie. And it worked.”
