Denim skirts are having a moment this spring, and while the midi and maxi lengths are often touted as the current look, denim mini skirts are also trending.
I was planning to sit this trend out, as I thought my mini skirt wearing days are well behind me, but I guess I was wrong! When I saw this KUT from the Kloth Bristol Utility Skirt at the Evereve store last month, I couldn’t resist trying it on. I’m so glad I did because as it turns out, I really like it! And it isn’t as short as I had anticipated.

In fact, I don’t even really consider this a mini skirt, but it is a current-looking length. In fact, so many dresses and skirts that are out right now are labeled “mini” when they’re really just an above-the-knee length on us mere mortals. (I’m 5’5″, for reference.) For example, this dress and this one from Gap Factory are both labeled mini dresses, but they are perfectly appropriate for those of us in the over-50 crowd.
All that to say, don’t get too caught up in the “mini” part and allow that to dissuade you from trying something you might end up loving. You’re better off comparing length measurements. This KUT from the Kloth Bristol Utility Skirt is 17″ long, for reference. I also appreciate how it’s cut slightly longer in the back than in the front, for a little extra coverage.
The fabric is suuuuper soft and lightweight, which makes it comfortable for the summer heat, and I love the raw hem and subtle distressing. The utility pockets are another nice modern touch.
FIT TIP: This skirt is true to size for most brands. I usually wear a 6 in KUT from the Kloth jeans, but an 8 in other brands, and I’m wearing the 8 in this skirt.
I paired this denim skirt with a sleeveless sweater for a modern and polished look. A casual tank or t-shirt would certainly work, and there may be a time when I go with that pairing, but for this post, I decided to top off this denim mini skirt with a summer sweater instead. This is something I could wear to meet a girlfriend for lunch or to a casual family gathering.
The Jane Pullover is from Evereve’s own label, and it has some really nice details, like the ribbed collar and rolled edges. It’s made of a soft 100% cotton knit, and the red stripes provide a fun pop of color. It runs true to size, or size down if in between. I have the small.
In keeping with the elevated look, I wore raffia slide sandals and carried a raffia clutch. I don’t always match my shoes and bag, especially with raffia, but in this case I thought they worked well together.
I like how these sandals walk that fine line between dressy and casual… See what I did there? The raffia fabric is light and summery, and bead-trimmed buckle detail keeps them classy. Plus, they have a 1″ block heel, and there’s a good amount of padding under the strap and in the footbed, so they’re quite comfortable to walk in. They’re also 30% off right now!
Finally, I added shiny gold doorknocker earrings and a wavy bangle to keep the look polished and put-together.
Of course, there are so many other ways to wear this versatile denim mini skirt! I wasn’t really planning this post topic when I photographed it, or I might have brought along a few other options. Here’s how I tried it on in the dressing room — with a simple grey tank and metallic leather flip flops, and also with a graphic tee.

Both of these tops create a more laidback vibe, which work well for more casual occasions. I also think white sneakers would look great with both of these outfits.
