We’ve seen it time and time again this season, and it’s time to just lean into the fact that tights are the new pants. Anyone who tries to argue it is further proving it. Fashion icons and runway models alike are wearing underwear—boxers, briefs, bloomers, thongs—and pairing them with nothing but tights. Lily-Rose Depp’s pantsless trend take is one for the ages.
Lily-Rose Depp posted an Instagram carousel of her trip to Japan with her girlfriend 070Shake, and in them, she posted an outfit photo. A sheer longsleeve black shirt, a pair of tight briefs, and black, red, and blue argyle tights. We’ve seen clowncore dip into trend a bit. and this version of it with the tights as pants as so perfect. Nipples are in, so her nipples were out, but that’s long been one of her signatures. She paired it with a pair of round-toed pumps. Brava, Lily-Rose. We love it.
While The Idol actress’ look is totally on trend, it also finds a way to be totally her own. Depp as a celebrity manages to be really low-key. She’s not one to give huge interviews or post a ton on the Internet, but her style is amazing and it speaks for itself.

I do foresee clownery getting back into trend in a big way, between this and the popularity of popstar and drag lover Chappell Roan. Clown-inspired makeup was on the runway at Maison Margiela’s couture show earlier this year, which inspired a bunch of recreations on TikTok.
As for the pantslessness, celebrities like Sydney Sweeney, Kristen Stewart, Charli XCX and more have shown up to public events with sheer clothes and nothing on but underwear. And now we have a vote from fashion icon Lily-Rose Depp. So naysayers, get on board with the tights as pants trend, or step aside.
