While she once upon a time had the UK’s governmental affairs to take care of, Meghan Markle is now doing what American royals (see: the Kardashians, Gwyneth Paltrow) do best: launching a lifestyle brand. Earlier this month, a mysterious Instagram account and website by the name of American Riviera Orchard appeared online with “by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex” as its only descriptor. Now, we know a little more about it.

Of all the celebrities to potentially debut a makeup brand, Markle was… definitely on my list of high hopes! I love her look. And as it turns out, cosmetics and skincare are officially part of the long list of places American Riviera Orchard can take us. Along with, wait for it, lavender sachets! And live flower arrangements, “basins in the nature of bowls,” string lights, honey butter, and calligraphy pens. If I had to list all the trademarks, we’d be here all day, so let’s focus on the beauty aspects.
American Riviera Orchard
On March 9, trademark applications filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office by an LLC called Mama Knows Best showed American Riviera Orchard is interested in goods and services including (but certainly not limited to): cosmetics, cosmetics brushes, fragrance (including lavender sachets), non-medicated skincare preparations, scented oils, bath and shower gels and salts not for medical purposes, non-medicated hair preparations, soap of the bath, bar, and non-medicated hand varieties, and body creams, lotions, and oils.

I know that's a long list, and it doesn't mean that everything will make its way to the fresh new website (or a brick and mortar storefront in Montecito manned by the family like Dash in its early days? We can only hope). Regardless, it's fun to dream about what Meghan's makeup might look like. I picture neutral hues, impressive pigments, and one really, really good mascara.
And friends, you're hearing it here first: there will be ARO lavender satchets for everyone this coming gifting season.
