The year of Barbie has officially extended into awards season. After taking over our closets, beauty trends, and playlists for all of 2023, the record-breaking film is coming into the new year looking for some accolades—which it just got at the 2024 Golden Globes in more ways than one.
Greta Gerwig's hit movie took home the award for Box Office Achievement, and Billie Eilish's song off of the Barbie soundtrack, "What Was I Made For?," took home the award for Best Original Song. However, to our beauty and style-obsessed minds, the real award was the fashion the Barbies of Barbie Land served on the red carpet. Top of the list? Hari Nef.
Nef, who played Doctor Barbie, waltzed the red carpet and mingled with everyone from Kylie Jenner to Dua Lipa in a gorgeous, ruffly Alexandre Vauthier gown. Styled by Chris Horan, the strapless design was practically just stacked black tutus on top of each other, with its sheer fabric forming a small train and a slit up her leg, just high enough to show off her Gianvito Rossi shoes.

However, despite the slayage happening with the outfit, we couldn’t take our eyes off her glam. Nef wore a classic winged eyeliner and soft pink lip, with glowing skin and thick, fluttery lashes. Her makeup artist Adam Burrell gave us the exclusive details on her makeup, which he created using Victoria Beckham Beauty and Pro Lash.
"The iconic beauty looks of '60s icons Sharon Tate, Brigitte Bardot and Jean Shrimpton was our main inspiration," Burell tells Byrdie. "This look was all about paying homage to the timeless beauty look the '60s gave us: a winged liner and wispy lash. To keep the look modern we kept the rest of the makeup fresh and glowing."
For Nef’s skin prep, Burrell used the Cell Rejuvenating Power Serum ($125) and Moisturizer ($100) for a glowing base. He used the Matte Bronzing Brick ($66) in shade 01 to shape the face and Cheeky Posh blush ($42) in Knickers for a subtle flush. He finished off the skin with the Reflect Highlighter Stick ($42) for a healthy shine.
“The star product for any ’60s inspired look is the lash,” he says. “I used Pro Lash Classic Weave Small Lashes ($55), which I love because they have really natural, wispy lashes—my favorite kind of lashes. I used a mixture of the sizes for a winged, fluffy look. I created a feline wing using Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Liner ($32) in Black and finished the eyes with Victoria Beckham Beauty Vast Lash Mascara ($34).” He finished off the makeup with the Lip Definer ($30) in 02 and a slick of Posh Lipstick ($38) in Spice.

Nef's hair also gave French girl, and was styled by Evanie Frausto using Bumble and Bumble products. Inspired by French actresses combined with classic Hollywood glamour, Frausto created a bouncy textured blowout.
To get the volume needed for the look, Frausto started with Thickening Spray ($32), applying it to Hari’s towel-dried, but still damp, hair. The spray was applied from roots to ends before being rough-dried. After it was about 90% dry Frausto used a medium-sized metal round brush to finish the blowout.
After that, Frausto sprinkled Prêt-à-powder ($32) on the roots to make sure the volume stayed put all night, following the powder by adding extensions specifically to help frame Hari’s face.
To create the waves, Frausto used a 1.25-inch marcel iron to curl Nef’s whole head. In order to keep the curls in place all night, he sprayed Strong Finish ($36) hair spray while it was sitting in rollers, creating the perfect, flawless finish.
Then, it was time for the finishing touches. After taking out the rollers and letting the actor’s hair hang free, he sprayed Thickening Dryspun Texture Spray ($36) throughout the hair to add lift and volume. He then teased the hair at the crown and brushed out the waves to even more for a soft look.
The last step was a bit more Strong Finish to lock in this hairstyle all night, and then Nef was ready for the Golden Globe awards, taking our breath away the whole time.
