Anyone who’s ever gotten into running knows it sounds simple, and then there are a thousand new things to learn how to do right. Breathing, form, and yes, footwear. It turns out there’s actually quite a lot more to a running sneaker than meets the eye, and it’s not a one-size-fits-all kind of thing, unfortunately. If you’re not familiar with the On cinematic universe, here’s a quick summary. First came the Swiss sneaker brand’s shoe, the CloudTec, which feature cushiony air holes in the soles of the shoe. Then came the CloudTilt, which is similar to the original, but the holes were tilted into a sort of magnetic field-like design that mimics the lines of a foot’s arch. You get the vibe. Now, newest to the family is On’s Cloudsurfer 2. (It’s a misnomer, since it’s actually On’s eighth iteration of a Cloudsurfer, but they reset their numerical ordering when they came out with the CloudTec Phase.)
The Cloudsurfer 2 is designed for an everyday run to be effortless and comfortable, and of course it’s available for men and women in multiple, sober color ways so that if you actually just need a chill black sneaker sometimes, you can dip into your running shoes.
On has always been a runner favorite, and they’ve always been focused on incorporating new tech into their footwear. They recently came out with a 3D-printed marathon sneaker that runner Helen Obiri wore and became a two-time Boston Marathon winner.
