Anya Taylor-Joy is among the many stars and fashion icons showing leg to the cold winds of New York City winter. The actress was out in New York in a stunning, pillowy faux fur coat that was fastened up to her neck, buttoned to the top, if you will.
The coat is a beautiful three-tiered faux fur sculpture that came down Alexander McQueen’s fall 2024 show back in March of last year during Paris Fashion Week. It also makes gorgeous statement mini dress. In many ways, I almost think she didn’t have a choice. The coat simply must have the chance to shine on its own, and a pair of pants would have taken that way from it, surely. Taylor-Joy kept her styling minimal, of course. She wore a pair of pointed toe nude stiletto heels that basically gave the visual illusion of an extension of her legs, like a Barbie doll’s feet. In her hair, she wore a delicate little braid on one side of her face.
Fur coats are obviously huge this season. Suki Waterhouse has been walking around New York wearing them as well, though hers are all much more approachable and affordable. It’s interesting to see the trend winds blow. In the last several years, the discussion around fur, faux fur, and the ethics of real vintage fur vs polyester have really transformed as the trend has come back into style. Long gone, it seems, are the days of PETA protestors throwing paint on fur coat wearers because the odds of it being faux is pretty high. Plus there is, of course, the sustainability question of it. Is it better to wear something cruelty free if it contributes to an increase in plastic in fashion?
