‘Twas the night before my first day back at the office after a four-month maternity leave, and I didn’t know what to wear. A huge pile of blouses and sweaters grew and grew on my bedroom floor; my body had gone through so many changes this past year, and I was worried I didn’t have the wardrobe that fit anymore. Finally, I grabbed my Quince cashmere sweater off the rack, ripped off the tags, and threw it on in a “here goes nothing” way.
The cashmere sweater the internet can’t stop talking about (and my Instagram ads can’t stop serving me) fit so perfectly, I immediately ordered several more colors.
Mongolian Cashmere Oversized Crewneck Sweater $100 Buy Now
Sizing: XS-XL
Colorways: 5
Material Info: 100% Grade A Mongolian Cashmere
Whether you’re new to the world of the brand Quince, or are looking to buy a new sweater style from the luxury-for-all fashion and home goods website, know this: This oversized cashmere crewneck is the definition of cozy and put-together. Comfortable and easy to style with jeans (I’m wearing a pair of MOTHER jeans: These are the exact ones), it’s lightweight enough to tuck in the front, yet toasty enough to feel warm. I’ve only worn the sweater a few times, so I’ll have to report back on pilling.
The dread I felt putting an outfit together for an office I hadn’t been to in months (I worked from home while pregnant my second and third trimester) instantly melted, and I felt confident and, dare I say, cool walking to my desk.
What You Should Know About Quince
I was recently listening to a culture podcast and Substack (Culture Study from Anne Helen Petersen) in which Petersen interviews Caroline Moss, the creator of the Substack Gee Thanks, Just Bought It. Moss answered a listener question about the brand Quince: Mainly, what is it and is it…legit? That’s what the site team team aimed to answer in our editor review that we’ve been working on for about a year. I’ve also been testing Quince for about three years, wearing everything from their famed sweaters to their universally-loved summer dresses. Tldr; Quince uses a factory-direct model (direct-to-consumer or DTC) that gets rid of the supply chain middleman step and reduces costs for the customer. It’s only online, so the brand doesn’t have the costs of physical store upkeep.
Quince is so popular because it takes iconic designs from elevated labels, somewhat replicates it, and then sells it for much cheaper. It’s pretty much…a dupe store. Which Amazon and Target already do, by the way, so this is nothing new. As someone who owns dozens of Quince pieces, I can confirm that the quality is very good for the price. The only thing you’re really not getting is the label.
So, if you’re here because you’re wondering whether or not you should invest in a Quince cashmere sweater, I give you my blessing (whatever that’s worth). We’ll be updating this article with more sweater styles worn by other site team editors, so bookmark it and keep checking back.
