Wake up babe, Anya Taylor-Joy is at the center of a fashion scandal! Hold on, that was dramatic. It’s more like tea. Piping hot, if you ask me. So earlier this week, Taylor-Joy attended the Los Angeles premiere of Apple TV+’s The George wearing a whimsical white mini dress from Christian Dior. The dainty little frock featured wing-like details, which Taylor-Joy flexed for photographers. If you didn’t know, Taylor-Joy, a Dior ambassador, is known for experimental looks. She favors dresses that feature statement elements like bold textures or wild silhouettes. (I’m still not over the hooded cape she wore on the Dune red carpet last year, a nod to her character in the sequel.) Anyway, while I was basking in the outfit’s glory, fashion designer Jeremy Scott was on Instagram calling out Dior for allegedly copying him.

Scott—who has designed for Moschino, Adidas, Longchamp, Christian Louboutin, and his own namesake label—shared a series of posts via Instagram comparing Taylor-Joy’s look to a dress from his spring/summer 1998 collection. Like Taylor-Joy’s mini, Scott’s look included a strapless bodice and pleated wings. “Anya Taylor-Joy in a version of my dress by Dior,” Scott wrote alongside a snap of the actress, tagging her and Dior. He then shared a photo of his design on the 1998 runway and a snap of it on display at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. Taylor-Joy and Dior have not yet responded to the claims.

While we can’t deny the similarities, fashionistas are having a hard time siding with Scott. “Yes, they might have stolen his design BUT pls Jeremy Scott is the last person on earth to be talking about stolen design,” a social media user shared via X. In the thread of the message, the social media user accused Scott of taking *close* inspiration from Schiaparelli under Daniel Roseberry in 2022. In side by side images, the fan argued that Scott copied Schiaparelli’s bold ethos via gold floral embellishments and other nature-like designs. “That man literally has dedicated collections made with stolen concepts from start to finish,” the social media user asserted.

Although we understand and can empathize with both sides, this is nothing new. It’s quite normal for high fashion brands to take inspiration from other major fashion houses. Following the highly-coveted Dior book tote, Prada introduced the Symbole, and Versace gave us the Athena. All similar in structure and style. That’s fashion, folks.
