The front row at Chanel’s Haute Couture show was stacked with the A-list’s A-list. And two of the biggest stars of the day were reality star and beauty entrepreneur Kylie Jenner and singer and actress Jennie Kim. They each have their own engines of star power, so the fact that they were both wearing waist jewelry definitely sparked our interest.
Jennie and Kylie both wore wildly different outfits. Jennie opted for sexy, angelic look comprising of a feathery, ruffly floor-length cape with a baby blue bra peeking through, a body chain slicing through her stomach, and a pair of black pants. Meanwhile Kylie wore a very classic Chanel look: a white tweed cropped blazer and mini skirt in the signature Chanel textile, a crossbody bag, and a series of chains crossing over her waist, less like jewelry and more like a belt. Jennie’s application of the trend was definitely more sexy, while Kylie’s was a slightly more modest way to wear the chains in a way that acted as an extension of her skirt.
Of course, the body chain has shown signs of coming back for some time now, as has quite a lot of the body jewelry that was popular in the early aughts. Sandy Liang put out a very cute baby pink heart-shaped belly button piercing last year, and there are all kinds of chains on major retailers that are meant to be draped on shoulders, across torsos, and around waists. While not explicitly the same as body chains, body jewelry in general was very popular amongst the big stars of the 2000s. Belly button piercings, waist chains, you name it. But when two of the biggest stars are wearing chains around their waists, sitting front row at one of the biggest shows at Paris Fashion Week, it’s more than just a little trend. Expect to see them everywhere this spring and summer.
