Blake Lively pulled out her ruby slippers to see Wicked. The actress was photographed arriving at the December 3 screening in New York City, wearing a pair of sparkly red platform heels from Marc Jacobs. The shoes, which retail for $450, featured tiny studs throughout and a buckle across the center.
Lively paired the footwear with blue socks, cuffed light-wash jeans, and a white blazer. She made it clear she’s still in her Lily Bloom era, opting for a floral button-up shirt and a textured Chanel bag adorned with red buttercups. (While promoting It Ends With Us, which follows a woman, who balances her dreams of opening a flower shop with an abusive relationship and a traumatic childhood, Lively stuck to floral fits.) Lively further accessorized with dangling floral earrings and a number of emerald rings. She wore her blonde hair down, parted to the side. The Gossip Girl alum attended the screening with her husband, Ryan Reynolds, who opted to play it cool in a tan monochrome outfit. At the event, the couple posed with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande—who play Elphaba and Glinda respectively in the two-part film adaptation, which premiered on November 22.
Both Erivo and Grande opted for dark ensembles—unlike the method ensembles they donned throughout the movie’s lengthy press tour. At the Los Angeles premiere, Erivo was a bright sight in a green latex Louis Vuitton dress as Grande looked dainty in a pale pink Thom Browne frock. For the London premiere, Erivo was extra witchy in a tulle gown by Schiaparelli, and Grande looked ethereal in a whimsical creation from Ralph Lauren.
Method dressing has become a must-do marketing technique for celebrities. We saw it with Margot Robbie during the Barbie press tour and with Jenna Ortega as she promoted Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Zendaya, meanwhile, has been method dressing for years. Think the webbed Valentino gown she wore to the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere, the Mugler cyborg suit for Dune, and the tennis ball heels from Loewe during the Challengers run.

The actress’ stylist, Law Roach, (rightfully) takes credit for popularizing the strategy, explaining during an episode of the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, “I did it for my whole entire career. Now it has a name. Now it’s called method dressing. I didn’t create it, but I did make it trendy.”
Celebrities aren’t the only ones that get to method dress, however. You too can dress on theme to see your favorite movie—especially when it comes to Wicked: Part 2. Keep scrolling to see dupes for Lively’s Marc Jacob platforms.
