Thanksgiving Outfit Inspiration

Thanksgiving is just a couple of weeks away, and while many are busy menu planning, I’m over here outfit planning! Of course, hosting Thanksgiving has taught me to juggle both — but thankfully, I’ve outsourced the turkey since Paul got his smoker for Father’s Day a few years back. (Best deal ever!)

What about you? Are you hosting, traveling, or keeping it low-key this year? Let me know in the comments! And if you’re looking for outfit ideas, I’ve got you covered. Whether you’re hosting at home, attending a family gathering, or heading out to dinner, these looks should give you plenty of inspiration!

For those who like to dress up or go out to eat for Thanksgiving dinner, a sweater dress is my favorite. This Rib Trim Collared Sweater Dress from LOFT is lightweight, so you won’t get overheated, and the loose fit leaves plenty of room for turkey and stuffing! I love the combination of green and brown for fall festivities. Another option would be chocolate brown boots.

If you aren’t into earth tones, here’s another sweater dress option in shades of black and gray. This time I added tights for warmth and a cozier look.

Another dressy option that’s perfect for Thanksgiving dinner out is this bias cut satin skirt and cardigan sweater in complementary shades of burgundy.

For a slightly more casual vibe that’s still nice enough for dining out, or you could wear it if you’re a dinner guest, is this black wash denim skirt with suede boots and a cozy green turtleneck sweater.

A corduroy dress in a seasonal shade of brown is another great Thanksgiving Day option. This one sold out in the brown, but I found a few other options that I linked below.

We rarely dine out for Thanksgiving, and we don’t get super dressy either, so I’m usually in some type of denim outfit. Before I started hosting, I would have totally worn something like this as a dinner guest at my sister-in-law’s house.

This rust silk blouse is perfect for those who live in warmer climates or just tend to run warm, as I do these days! Also, these gorgeous suede low-heeled pumps will allow you to stand around without killing your feet, but they still look dressy.

Another nice option for those who need short sleeves is this green ribbed mock neck top, and I love the leopard pumps for a festive fall look. You could also wear this top with straight leg jeans and leopard flats, if you don’t like to wear heels.

If you’re a fan of neutrals, this fair isle sweater could be an option. I don’t love how it fits on me, but it’s really pretty, and it might work for some of you. I wore taupe mules instead of black to pull from the lighter colors in the sweater, but mine are old, so I was excited to find a similar pair at Quince!

This look uses the same color palette, but it’s even simpler, which appeals to my minimalist style. I absolutely love this cashmere v-neck from Jenni Kayne, and it’s on sale right now.

Speaking of neutral looks, here’s one of my favorite outfits from last year. These exact pieces are no longer available, but I love this color palette and the combination of textures. Brown coated jeans add a subtle edgy vibe, and the luxe taupe sweater and taupe suede booties bookend the look.

And for another non-denim pants look, this outfit features deep red corduroys with a black collared cardigan and black slingback flats to bookend the look. These pants are lightweight and stretchy, so you won’t feel constricted if you want an extra piece of pumpkin pie! They’re also a great price right now, as is this sweater.

For those who prefer to keep it casual, here’s a cozy layered look that I like a lot for Thanksgiving. The burgundy suede sneakers will keep you comfy but still looking chic.

Cooper Quilted Vest (S) // Nordstrom Wool & Cashmere Hoodie (XS) // MOTHER denim (29) // Vince sneakers (8) – on sale // Madewell tote // Celine sunglasses (on sale)

And this is another fun layered look from a previous season. If you’re doing some type of outdoor activity on Thanksgiving, this would be perfect, but it might be too toasty for indoor events… at least with the vest. But it’s a lovely, simple look without the vest, too!

Even a simple navy pullover with jeans and boots would work for a casual Thanksgiving gathering, and I like the current trend of layering a white tee underneath the crewneck sweater for another point of interest. This outfit is

This color block sweater and jeans would work too. It’s a simple but elevated outfit that will keep you comfortable for a long day of visiting and eating.

I also love this cozy fair isle mock neck sweater in the fall neutral tones for a Thanksgiving gathering.

For those who are hosting and cooking all day, as I am, I recommend a short sleeved sweater because it’s always so hot in the kitchen. I usually wear flats while cooking and throw on some heels on when guests arrive.

This is what I’m planning to wear this year. The rust color gives a nod to fall, but the short sleeves and lightweight knit will keep me comfortable in the hot kitchen.

Or this is another possible option. I love this brown cowl neck top, and these boot crop jeans are stretchy and comfortable. Of course, I wouldn’t need the purse or bomber jacket, but I linked them in case you wanted the info.

I hope these ideas give you some festive fall outfit inspiration, so you can spend the next week or so focusing on meal planning and holiday shopping! And I’d love to hear about your Thanksgiving Day traditions.
