Happy Saturday! I’ve got a new try-on haul for you today, with summer styles from Evereve, LOFT, and Nordstrom. Today, I’m trying some dresses and shorts and jeans, and I went into Evereve and tried on a bunch of tops and jackets.
As usual, I will provide measurements and fabric content on each item when I can find it, and I’ll share whether I plan to keep it or not. Just remember, even when I decide not to keep something, it doesn’t mean it isn’t worth checking out. I just may not need it, or it may not work for my body type or lifestyle.
Summer Styles from Evereve, LOFT & Nordstrom
SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.
Tommy Bahama Ava Bay Linen Blend Tank Sweater Dress
at Nordstrom (M // at Bloomingdale’s // Dolce Vita sandals (7.5)
DETAILS:
- 33″ length
- Stretch lining
- 55% linen, 45% cotton
- Dry clean
I was drawn to this dress for the simple, classic style, and the way it plays into the open knit trend. I love that it comes with a liner, so there are no issues with show-through. It’s a nice quality dress, and the fit and feel is worthy of the price point.
The fit is really flattering, but it’s just a tad shorter than I’d prefer. It almost reads as a beach cover-up, but it’s a linen blend that suggests dry-cleaning, so I definitely will not be wearing this to the beach!
I tried topping it off with a black linen jacket, which also happens to be Tommy Bahama. I like how it dresses it up a bit, but it seems awfully heavy for the open weave tank dress. (By the way, the white linen jacket is on sale right now; I’ve been wanting it for a while, so I just ordered it! I take a small in this jacket.)
I think this cropped denim jacket looks better, but it’s rather casual, and I don’t know, not really the right style for the dress. I probably would only wear it when I don’t need a jacket.
VERDICT: I like this a lot; I’m definitely going to hold onto it for now. We love to go out to eat and sit outside in the summertime, so I think I would get a decent amount of wear out of it.
Maggy London Sleeveless Twist Front Maxi Dress
at Nordstrom (8) // Sam Edelman slides (8)
DETAILS:
- 45 1/2″ length
- Hidden back-zip closure
- Lined
- 90% polyester, 10% spandex
I ordered this dress, thinking it might be fun to have a maxi dress for church and other events this spring/summer. I really like the abstract print and front twist detail with side slit.
FYI, I did not try on either of these dresses with any shapewear. I would definitely wear my Spanx shaping shorts or at the very least, the Wacoal smoothing shorts under these two dresses.
VERDICT: I’m holding onto this one, as well, but I won’t remove the tags just yet. Since I don’t wear dresses a lot, I usually keep the tags on until I’m sure I’m going to wear them.
Summer Shorts
I’m pretty set for shorts, but I ordered a few to have some other options to show you.
JEN7 Roll Cuff Denim Shorts in Black
at Saks (29) // Splendid Faye tee (on sale) (M) // Sam Edelman slides (8)
DETAILS (per Saks):
- Rise, about 10.75″
- Inseam, about 4″
- Leg opening, about 23.5″
- 99% cotton/1% elastane
I had these in the white last summer, but I don’t remember them fitting quite so snug. I’ve gotten a little fluffier since last year, but more in the midsection than the thighs, so it might be that black denim tends to run smaller than white and blue denim. (This is true for all fabrics, not just denim. It is even true for bras! It is something about the black dye.)
Anywho. I think these would look better in the size 30. If you are someone looking for shorts with narrower leg openings, you might like these.
VERDICT: Returning; they’re a little small, and I don’t really love that fitted look in shorts right now.
LOFT Mid Rise Denim Roll Shorts in Fresh Guava
at LOFT (8) // Splendid Kate tee (M) // Dolce Vita sandals (7.5)
DETAILS:
- 10 1/2″ rise; 3 1/2″ inseam
- 98% Cotton 2% Elastane
These are a very similar style, but with a slightly shorter inseam, and I really like this bright pink. They are definitely brighter in person that pictured on the LOFT website, but these pictures make them look a little darker than they really are… at least, on my computer screen. I am aware that everyone’s is a little different.
SALE ALERT: LOFT is doing 40% off this weekend, and $35 Dresses!
These provide a little more wiggle room in the leg opening, which I appreciate. I’m sure they will stretch some with wear, because they’re LOFT, but I wouldn’t mind that too much.
VERDICT: I think I’ll keep these. The pink is fun and different than anything I have in my closet, and I have a lot of white tops, which work really well with them. Also, they’re a great price!
LOFT A-Line Denim Shorts in Classic Mid Wash
at LOFT (29) // Splendid Kate tee (M) // Dolce Vita sandals (7.5)
DETAILS:
- 12″ rise; 5 1/2″ inseam
- 60% Cotton 40% Lyocell
These pictures are for anyone who tells me I can wear anything… Goodness, who on earth dreamed up these shorts??? I know the more tailored styles are coming back, and yes, pleated shorts, but these are NOT the look we are going for, ladies.
Also, what is up with those teeny tiny pockets on such big, baggy shorts?
VERDICT: Needless to say, these went right back!
Evereve Spring Styles
An Evereve store just opened at my local mall, and I could not wait to get over there and check it out! As you all know, Evereve is my favorite place to shop. I’ve been noticing that I need some tops to round out my spring/summer wardrobe, so I tried a bunch when I was there a few days ago.
Evereve Cruz Sleeveless Hoodie
at Evereve // FRAME Pixie Le Slim Palazzo (29) // Paul Green sneakers (8)
DETAILS:
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 21 1/2″
- Material: 60% Cotton, 40% Modal Slub Knit
I took photos of the tags on most of the pieces that I did not purchase, so I could remember the brand and the size, but I forgot to photograph this one. I guessing it was a small, and I really wish I’d tried the medium because it’s so cute, and the fabric is sublime.
Judging by how it fits on the model, I think it’s supposed to be looser and more relaxed, but I didn’t try the next size up because when I didn’t love how those “sleeves” look on me. I feel like it makes my already boxy shoulders look even wider.
VERDICT: Sadly, I did not bring this one home with me. I have half a mind to order the medium, just to try it and see, because I love everything else about this top, but I just don’t think that’s going to solve the issue. It might even make it worse. Plus, hoods annoy me, and even though this one is lightweight, I just feel like it’s not meant to be.
Evereve Kadi Rib Tank in Multi
at Evereve (M) // FRAME Pixie Le Slim Palazzo (29) // Paul Green sneakers (8)
DETAILS:
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 22 1/2″
- Material: 97% Cotton, 3% Spandex Rib Knit
This is a top I had my eye on from the website, so I grabbed it as soon as I saw it. Unfortunately, I didn’t care for the colors on me. I feel like they don’t do much for my skin tone or something.
Evereve Kadi Rib Tank in Grey
at Evereve (M) // KUT from the Kloth Amanda (S) // FRAME Pixie Le Slim Palazzo (29) // Paul Green sneakers (8)
I do, however, like it in the grey. It’s just a nice basic that I can wear alone with shorts or layer under a jacket.
VERDICT: I bought the grey and left the pink multi at the store.
KUT from the Kloth Rumi Crop Denim Trucker Jacket
at Evereve (M) // at Nordstrom (M) // Splendid t-shirt (M) // FRAME Pixie Le Slim Palazzo (29) // Paul Green sneakers (8)
DETAILS:
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 19 1/2″
- Material: 49% Cotton, 28% Lyocell, 3% Spandex Weave
I met a friend at the mall the day I visited Evereve, and she was wearing this jacket. It looked so cute on her, I had to try it, but it didn’t translate so well on me.
She is petite, so it worked for her, but that 19 1/2″ length is just a smidge too short for my liking. (The KUT from the Kloth Kara is 21″, for reference.)
Here is another angle. It’s very cute, and it has some very nice details. I think some of you will like it.
Maybe I should have brought it home and tried it on with other jeans… but for now, it stayed at the store.
VERDICT: I will keep it in mind, as I’m putting outfits together. I could easily go back and get it.
Evereve Camp Jacket
at Evereve (S) // FRAME Pixie Le Slim Palazzo (29) // Paul Green sneakers (8) // Naghedi Nomad Hobo in Cashmere
DETAILS:
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 21 3/8″
- Material: 58% Linen, 40% Lyocell, 2% Spandex Weave
Now, this jacket, I really like. It’s the Evereve label, and the linen blend fabric is really nice and lightweight, so I can see wearing this into summer. It has an easy, somewhat boxy fit; and I like how the non-banded waist hangs nice and straight.
Also, the seamed raglan sleeves are a really nice detail. A raglan sleeve also helps to soften the appearance of broad or boxy shoulders.
One thing that I didn’t think I liked at first was how there is no snap cuff, so you can’t open them up to roll them up. But then I tried just pushing them up, and that looks cute. In a way, I like it better than futzing with the rolled cuff.
VERDICT: I brought this one home with me. I love transitional jackets like this one; they really have a way of making a simple t-shirt and jeans into a complete outfit, and at the moment, I don’t have a black one other than that Tommy Bahama linen one with the raw edges, and sometimes it’s a little fussier than what I want to wear.
LA Made Satin Tank in Mauve Ice
at Evereve (M) // FRAME Pixie Le Slim Palazzo (29) // Paul Green sneakers (8) // Naghedi Nomad Hobo in Cashmere
DETAILS:
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 23″
- Material: 43% Viscose, 53% Rayon (Satin Contrast: 96% Rayon, 4% Spandex Rib Knit)
Satin is trending this season, and I thought this top could be a nice piece for date nights this summer, and also a good layering piece under jackets. I really like the contrasting rib trim and relaxed fit. It is also super duper soft — especially that trim.
But something about it just falls short for me. Or long, rather. I wish it had a straight waistband, and it could be a little shorter. Plus, the color doesn’t do a lot for me, but it does come in Ivory.
VERDICT: I left this one at the store.
bobi Utility Tee
at Evereve (M) // FRAME Pixie Le Slim Palazzo (29) // Paul Green sneakers (8) // Naghedi Nomad Hobo in Cashmere
DETAILS:
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 21 1/2″
- Material: 100% Cotton Slubbed Jersey
If you aren’t familiar with the Los Angeles-based bobi brand, their mission is effortless, comfortable, casual luxury. I’ve shopped this brand at Nordstrom before, and I’m so glad to see Evereve carrying it!
I love how this top is a comfy slubbed jersey cotton fabric, but it has the look of a blouse, and the utility details keep it right on trend. The shirred detail at the back is a nice touch, and I like the cuff detail on the sleeves
I appreciate the way the cuffed short sleeves create a diagonal line, which minimizes a larger bust and/or shoulders. The two chest pockets threw me off at first, but I don’t think I mind them too much. If you have a larger chest, you might not care for those.
VERDICT: Keeping! Love this top; it is exactly what I was hoping to find when I popped into Evereve!
PAIGE Anessa Utility in Tonal Ecru
on sale at Bloomies (29) at Evereve (29) // at Nordstrom (29) // Bobi Utility Tee (M) // Paul Green sneakers (8)
DETAILS (per Nordstrom):
- 26″ inseam; 22″ leg opening; 12″ front rise (size 29)
- Front welt pockets; Back patch pockets
- 98% cotton, 2% elastane
I have these jeans in the Rock Show Distressed wash (on sale at Bloomies!) from last year, and I love how they fit. I’ve seen this ecru pair with the utility pockets online, and probably even linked it in some of my roundups, but I didn’t feel the need to take the plunge until I saw them in-store at Evereve.
This is exactly what I need to round out my spring wardrobe. I had been considering keeping this Citizens pair, but I think I like the fit of the Anessa better. Plus, the denim is softer and lighter weight.
I got mine at Evereve, but they are currently on sale at Bloomies, so if you’re thinking of snagging yourself a pair, I would recommend purchasing at Bloomingdale’s. Also, their returns are free, so if in doubt about sizing, buy both and return the one that doesn’t work out.
VERDICT: I bought these! I wish I’d known they were on sale at Bloomies, but oh, well. I’m happy to give the business to the sale associates who were so helpful in-store.
Phoebe Dolman Top
at Evereve (S) // PAIGE Anessa Utility (29) // Paul Green sneakers (8) // Naghedi Nomad Hobo in Cashmere
DETAILS:
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 23″
- Material: 100% Lyocell Weave
I like this print and the satiny fabric, but it doesn’t drape very well, and that elasticized banded waist does it no favors. I tried making it front tucked, but that doesn’t really help.
VERDICT: This one stayed at the store. It has potential, but it fell short for me. I have a feeling some of you will like it, though.
Sundry Golden Hour Tee
at Evereve // PAIGE Anessa Utility (29) // Paul Green sneakers (8)
Sundry Golden Hour Tee, size L
DETAILS:
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 21″
- Material: 100% Cotton Slub Jersey
Now, this is right up my alley! I love a graphic tee in the summertime, and I thought the Golden Hour sentiment was kind of fun. When Paul is taking my outfit photos, he’s always waiting for Golden Hour to arrive.
I usually take a small or medium in graphic tees, and it looked teeny, so I took the medium back to the dressing room, but it seemed a bit skimpy.
Sundry Golden Hour Tee, size M
I went back out and grabbed the large, and I like the fit of this much better. It has a nice drape, it works well front tucked, and if it shrinks a bit in the wash, I won’t cry about it.
Sundry Golden Hour Tee, size L
VERDICT: Bought the large! Definitely size up, if ordering.
Faherty Sunwashed Slub Muscle Tank in Coneflower
at Evereve (S) // PAIGE Anessa Utility (29) // Paul Green sneakers (8)
DETAILS:
- Length from Shoulder to Hem: 22″
- Material: 100% Organic Cotton Slub Knit
- Sustainable practices: Made from 100% GOTS certified organic cotton
Faherty does such nice quality fabrics, and this sunwashed slub muscle tank is no exception. It’s substantial without feeling too thick, and it’s nice and soft.
It has nice details, and the muscle tank style is a big thing right now, but I don’t think it does much for me, even with my go-to front tuck. It’s just too straight up and down, and it makes my shoulders look boxy. I don’t hate it; I just don’t love it, either.
VERDICT: I left this top at the store, but some of you might like it. It also comes in white, navy, and bronze; but I think this pink is really fun for summer. It runs true to size, or size down, if in between.
Michael Stars Rosa Striped Pant
at Evereve (M) // Penelope Tank (M) // Paul Green sneakers (8)
DETAILS:
- 12″ Front Rise; 30″ Inseam; 13″ Leg Opening
- Material: 100% Cotton Weave
I knew these were a longshot, but they were so cute on the rack, I had to try them. But no. These pants sort of demand a full-tucked top, but that waistband creates a horizontal line right across my belly area, which is not the area I care to draw attention to.
Plus, it’s made even more obvious by the way they designed the horizontal embroidered stripes in the waistband to contrast to the vertical stripes in the pants. Cute design detail for those who have a smaller waist they want to highlight.
I also tried these pants with the Splendid t-shirt that I wore into the store. I was thinking because it’s thinner and more fitted than the sweater, it might work better, but not really. I tried a front tuck, to soften that horizontal line created by the waistband of the pants, but this looks even worse. It is really designed to be shown all the way around.
The only thing that might make these pants work is to wear a linen button-up unbuttoned over top of a fitted tank that is tucked in. If I’d brought them home, I would have tried that on to show you, but I didn’t want to bother finding those pieces in the store.
VERDICT: Needless to say, these pants did not leave the store with me. As for the sweater tank, I didn’t try it with jeans or anything else, although I probably should have. It’s cute in theory, but the waistband is kind of snug, so it doesn’t really front tuck well, and left out, it’s kind of boxy.
PAIGE Cindy Crop Jean
at Evereve (29) // Splendid Kate tee (M) // Dolce Vita sandals (7.5) // Paul Green sneakers (8)
DETAILS:
- 10 1/2″ Front Rise; 26″ Inseam; 14 1/2″ Leg Opening
- Material: 93% Cotton, 5% Polyester, 2% Spandex Denim
These jeans are also from Evereve, but they came in the mail last week. I thought they could be a good alternative to the MOTHER Dazzler that I wear so often. I love the wash and the soft denim, and the fit is pretty good, but I feel like that whiskering across the hips makes them look wider and calls undue attention to that area.
The rear view is good, though. I just don’t know about the length. A year or two ago, I might have said it was perfect, but now it seems a tad too short.
Here’s how they look front-on with sneakers… I’m a little meh about these.
So that got me thinking, I wonder what the MOTHER Dazzler looks like with the same sneakers… And that spawned a whole big try-on shesh with denim from my closet.
Denim From My Closet
These are all jeans I own. Some are from last year, and I was waiting until my ankle healed up enough to try them on with current shoes in my closet. And some are from this year, and I was holding onto them with tags on, in case I wanted to return them.
For anyone just tuning in, I spent 6 weeks in a medical boot this spring, so I wasn’t really dong much experimenting with outfits until this past week or so. Anywho… let’s start with The Dazzler.
MOTHER Dazzler in Riding the Cliffside
at MOTHER Denim (29) // at Saks (29) // Splendid Kate tee (M) // Paul Green sneakers (8)
DETAILS (per MOTHER):
- 9 3/4″ Mid Rise; 27 1/2″ Inseam; 13″ Leg Opening
- 78% Cotton 16% Modal 4% Polyester 2% Elastane
- Made in Los Angeles
I wear these a TON, all year ’round, and sometimes I wish I had another similar pair to swap out, for variety’s sake, but none ever quite measure up.
They could be a smidge shorter with these sneakers, but I feel like they look okay for an ankle-length style.
VERDICT: I definitely prefer these to the PAIGE Cindy Crop, above, and if I had both, I think I would always reach for these instead, so I returned the Cindy.
FRAME Pixie Le Slim Palazzo Wide Leg Jeans
at Nordstrom (29) // Splendid Kate tee (M) // Dolce Vita sandals (7.5)
DETAILS (per Nordstrom):
- 27 1/2″ inseam; 22″ leg opening; 11 1/2″ front rise
- 77% cotton, 18% rayon, 4% elasterell-p, 1% elastane
I bought these a few months ago, right before I injured my ankle, and I’ve been holding onto them with tags on. While they are very similar to the PAIGE Anessa, I like that released hem, and the wash is slightly darker, which is nice sometimes.
Also, the denim is suuuuper soft and lightweight and comfortable, even with the extra fluff I’m carrying these days.
Here’s the PAIGE Anessa, for reference. They have a 27″ inseam; 22 1/2″ leg opening; 11 1/2″ front rise. As you can see, they are very similar.
PAIGE Anessa in Rock Show Distressed (29) (on sale!) // FRAME Le Mid Rise V-Neck Tee (XS) // Birk Madrid (39)
VERDICT: I decided to keep the FRAME Palazzo jeans, I think I have use for both pairs in my spring/summer wardrobe. And, as you can see in the photos above, I wore them to shop at Evereve last week!
Good Straight High Waist Raw Hem Straight Leg Jeans
at Nordstrom (8) // Splendid Kate tee (M) // Dolce Vita sandals (7.5)
DETAILS (per Nordstrom):
- 27 1/2″ inseam; 14 1/2″ leg opening; 11″ front rise; 15″ back rise (size 8)
- 72% cotton, 20% recycled cotton, 6% elasterell-p, 2% elastane
This is a pair from last year I wanted to try to see if they still fit, and how I feel about the length and silhouette. These are a pair of slim straight ankle jeans with a raw hem, and the white denim is nice and thick, and not at all see-through.
They have a good amount of stretch, and the rear view checks out okay. They’re feeling a little snug, but I think they’ll be fine as I wear them around. Good American denim doesn’t ever bag out, but it does stretch and soften up with wear.
VERDICT: These went back into my closet for another season!
MOTHER Insider in Fairest Of Them All
at MOTHER (39) // at Bloomies (30) // Splendid Kate tee (M) // Dolce Vita sandals (7.5)
DETAILS (per MOTHER):
- 10″ Rise; 26″ Inseam; 15″ Leg Opening
- 94% Cotton 4% Polyester 2% Elastane
- Made in Los Angeles
This pair may look familiar to you because I did have them last year (actually, I think I got them in 2022) but they were getting really tight, so I donated them at the end of last season. This is the size 30, and it’s still pretty snug. I’m not sure what is going on with these.
I do love the kick flare styling, but the denim is rather thin, and I don’t love how they wrinkle in the back of the leg. All white denim does that to some extent (see the Good American pair, above) but those don’t look that great to me overall.
VERDICT: I may return these; I have the tags on still, but I’ll wait and see if I feel like I want them. I got them on sale at Bloomingdale’s a while back, and they have a generous return policy, so I’m going to hold onto them for now.
MOTHER Insider in Dancing on Coals
at Bloomies (29) // Splendid Kate tee (M) // Paul Green sneakers (8)
This is the same style of jeans, but in a distressed blue denim wash with a chewed hem. I loved these jeans for years; they were my go-to casual jeans for spring and summer. In fact, I bought them again last summer because I needed to size up, so these aren’t that old.
VERDICT: The chewed hem and busted-out knees are looking a bit tired to me now, but I can’t bear to part with them. I think I will continue wearing them for super casual purposes this spring/summer.
And that is all I have time for today. Wow, that was a long one… just like old times, haha!
