Hi friends! It’s time for another everyday outfit roundup! I don’t have nearly as many pictures as I usually do, since I’ve been down with an injured foot for the better part of the past two weeks, but I figured I’d go ahead and post what I have.
SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops and dresses, a 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.
What I Wore: Two Weeks of Everyday Outfits
The events before I messed up my ankle seem so long ago… almost like another lifetime. I wore this very basic outfit to work from home and walk the dog (thus the On Cloud sneakers) and then I ran out to get my hair color touched up and cover up those pesky grays.
While there’s nothing special about it, I really the easy fit of sweater and the crossover v-neck. Also, these jeans are my favorite everyday flares. They sold out at Nordstrom, but they’re on sale in a few sizes at Saks, and Neiman’s has a version with a finished hem on sale that is fully stocked! There are a few of those at Saks too.

I wore this casual look to meet a friend for coffee. I love this stripe zipper detail on this cozy half-zip sweatshirt.

I changed into wide leg jeans and sandals for a mani/pedi that afternoon.

We had dinner plans that night, and I wasn’t feeling very inspired. This is such an awkward time of year to dress for. I wanted to wear my new LOFT swing trench jacket, and I thought it would work well with this stripe cotton blend sweater, but it seemed awfully plain without the coat. A front tuck helped only minimally.
I added a belt, and decided that would have to do. I should have worn bigger earrings, at least, but I didn’t bother changing the mixed metal hoops.

Here’s how it looked with the jacket. This definitely completes the look. It was a chilly night, so I did wear it buttoned. Also, these jeans are on sale at Saks in some other washes.

And that brings us to that fateful Saturday night… We came home from a long afternoon at our daughter’s competition, and I ran upstairs to change while Paul retrieved the pizza we had ordered. I debated doing the whole nighttime routine/pajama thing, but I was eager to have a piece of pizza while it was hot, so I just switched into slippers and headed back downstairs.
That’s when I got distracted by the dog’s poop (sorry, TMI) on the foyer rug and stepped down onto the bottom step, thinking it was the floor. I was holding a glass of water in my right hand, which I somehow managed not to drop, and I came down with my full body weight onto that turned ankle.
I scraped my right elbow on the wall, so I guess that’s how I caught myself and prevented a total wipeout, but I knew immediately that I’d done some serious damage to that ankle. I wasn’t able to put any weight on it without extreme pain, so after icing it for a while, we decided to go to the ER. They didn’t see a break on the x-ray, so they sent me home with crutches and a snazzy medical boot to use until I could get into see a specialist.
All that to say, this is what I wore that day… Except, I was wearing UGG slippers, not sneakers, by the time we went to the ER.

I do not have much photographic evidence of I’ve been wearing since, but it’s been pretty much some variation on this. I have several pairs of Vuori joggers, and I’ve been rotating through those, as well as my Athleta Balance Flare Pants, which are unfortunately sold out.

For anyone more interested in the fate of my ankle than what I’ve been wearing, I did get in to see a foot and ankle specialist the Monday after my fall. Because I have a long history of foot and ankle injuries, I pretty much have one on speed dial. (I’m kidding, of course, but because I was an existing patient, I was able to get in right away.)
He confirmed that I did a good bit of damage to my ligaments, and he suspects there’s a break they missed at the ER. He did more x-rays and ordered an MRI. Until I get the results, I’m supposed to wear a medical boot 24/7, but he said I’m allowed to be weight-bearing in the boot, so I stopped using my crutches, but I’m not sure that was a great idea. At first, it felt fine to walk on it, but it has been getting more painful, and I definitely think there’s a break in there somewhere. I’ve gone back to using crutches some, trying to protect it from further injury. I have an appointment to go back in and get the results tomorrow.
Okay, moving on… I took this picture when I got back from my MRI on Saturday. This jacket is on sale, by the way! It’s my favorite for wearing with joggings and yoga pants to walk the dog or run casual errands.
And yes, this is a different boot. I have two – one from the ER and the other from my podiatrist. I can’t decide which one I hate more. One is smaller than the other, and it’s really tight, but it stays on better. The bigger one doesn’t stay snug, which isn’t good either, but when I start to feel claustrophobic in the smaller one, I prefer that one. I switch back and forth, depending on what I think I need on a given day.
Also, I keep getting asked what is on the bottom of my sneaker… that’s a shoe balancer. It helps balance out leg length, to reduce body strain due to uneven gait when wearing the walking boot. It’s a game changer, and I’m so grateful my podiatrist gave me one. I’ve been in a walking boot before without one, and it totally jacked up my hips.

And then I took this picture on Monday, but nothing I’m wearing is available, so I’m not sure why I bothered. I didn’t go anywhere, but I did put on some makeup, just to try and feel a little more human.
And that’s it for this week. I won’t lie, it’s a challenge to stay positive, being laid up and not knowing what is going on. I’m praying I don’t need surgery or a cast, and that we can go to Florida for Spring Break next week. My daughters are going to be so disappointed if we have to cancel. I will too, but I’m more concerned about disappointing them. Anyway, all prayers are appreciated!
